February, 2022 - Well it has certainly been a long journey to get here but the day has finally come! Lancaster County Animal Shelter is so thrilled to announce that our rescue partner, Lancaster SPCA (LSPCA), has a new transport van made possible through donations from community donors and sponsors. They will begin transporting shelter animals to various rescues around the country starting this week, saving hundreds of lives of shelter animals every year. We are so grateful to the community of individual and corporate supporters, too many to mention here, for your contributions to this much-needed transport van. We assure you that it will be very well used and many lives will be saved in the process!.
If you see Marty Steele driving around town in this eye-catching van, make sure to honk and wave! Shout out to Mark Baker, Brianna Gulledge and the entire staff at Rapid Signs, LLC for the amazing job they did creating and wrapping this van to represent LSPCA in such an amazing way! Every animal on this van were LSPCA rescues and every one is special!
November, 2021 - The Walk Of Hope is to be constructed at the shelter!
Lancaster SPCA is partnering with the Lancaster County Animal Shelter to build a Walk of Hope in front of the shelter. The Walk of Hope provides the opportunity to help current and future animals at the shelter and will reflect the generous support of our community.
Consider purchasing a personalized, commemorative brick to honor a precious friend or in memory of a treasured loved one — two or four legged! Your laser-engraved brick will become a permanent part of the facility and will be a tribute to those you choose to honor.
The perfect gift for the person who has everything, all animal lovers or to honor any person or pet in your life, past or present. Order soon to be included in the first shipment of bricks to be installed as part of the dedication of the Walk of Hope.

October 19, 2020 - We have begun our move into the new shelter! Please don't mind our dust while we do our best to get settled in, get all the computers up and running and get organized. We are running back and forth between the new and old shelters, but we should be all ready to be in full swing by the end of the month or before.

September, 2020 - Construction on the new shelter is almost complete. Beautiful dog and cat statues were created by artists Pook Bellini and Kristina Ray and contributed by the Lancaster County Council of the Arts. They were dedicated and installed at the new Lancaster County Animal Shelter on September 23, 2020 in preparation for the shelter opening in late October. The statues will help welcome the public to this amazing new space which is a great asset to the Lancaster community and all the animals in need.

August, 2020 - Construction on the new shelter is coming along nicely and we are hoping it will be ready some time in October - fingers crossed! There are still a lot of elements to the shelter that need to be in place before we can begin to move in.
LSPCA is partnering with the Lancaster County Animal Shelter to raise funds to address the needs of the shelter. Donations will be used to help the 3000 - 5000 animals that pass through the shelter each year. This initiative is called "Shelter in Place 2020".
Sponsorships are open to all businesses and individuals. The name or logo of every sponsor will be displayed at the new shelter and sponsors will be advertised on LSPCA and Shelter social media pages, website and LSPCA newsletter. LSPCA is arranging a private Open House and tour of the new Lancaster County Animal Shelter for their “SHELTER in Place 2020” sponsors prior to the opening to the public. All social-distancing and precautionary measures will be in place for our guests.
We ask that you please complete the sponsorship form (see link below) and return it by September 23, 2020 to secure a sponsorship. If you'd like to donate in memory or in honor of a loved one or beloved pet, we encourage you to make a donation in their name in any amount you'd like.
July, 2019 - Lancaster County is building a new $3M animal shelter on Pageland Hwy (Route 9), near the Public Works Department in Lancaster. The 11,000 square foot facility will be larger than the current shelter. Its size will provide more holding capacity and a bright, clean environment for staff and volunteers. We hope this new facility attracts more people to visit the animals and to volunteer and be a part of the animal shelter to help save even more animals!
The complex will include a 4,800-square-foot building with space for animal intake and holding, a medical area for treatment, offices, and space for pet adoptions, as well as a laundry and a food-storage area. It also has two rooms for cats and 46 runs to house dogs.
