About

Welcome to Lancaster County, SC
Animal Shelter

LANCASTER COUNTY ANIMAL SHELTER is a separate department from ANIMAL CONTROL. If you have information concerning strays, unrestrained or dangerous animals, please contact Animal Control at the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Department at 803-283-3388, (Option 4).

The primary function of the Lancaster County Animal Shelter is to house and care for stray and surrendered animals. If stray pets are not claimed after a 5-day stray hold, the animal becomes the property of Lancaster County and are offered to animal rescues and to the public for adoption. There is a reclaim fee if your animal is brought to the shelter. You DO NOT need to be a Lancaster County Resident in order to adopt from the shelter.

Before animals leave the shelter for adoption, they are spayed or neutered (NO EXCEPTIONS), given booster shots, a rabies shot, de-wormed and micro-chipped. Adoption fees cover the costs of these services. Our goal here at the shelter is to help the over-population on cats and dogs by spaying and neutering all of our animals before they leave our facility.

ADOPT A PET

Every pet that is adopted from the shelter opens a space for another pet to have a safe place for another day.

RECLAIM YOUR LOST PET

When Spot or Mr. Whiskers goes missing, here's what you'll need to know...

Volunteers are always needed to help out with the animals at the shelter. Any time you can give will be appreciated by us and our furry residents.
